Maria Knuckley Robinson, BORN IN 1970
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Maria Knuckley Robinson is a visual artist, educator, and writer whose interdisciplinary practice explores the intersections of memory, grief, and feminist resilience. Working across painting, installation, and digital fabrication, Robinson reclaims domestic gestures such as stitching, folding, and casting as acts of preservation and resistance. Her recent MFA thesis project, Lavender and Stone, reflects on intergenerational memory and the silencing of women’s voices through material contrasts of softness and permanence.

Rooted in feminist theory and site-specific inquiry, her installations often integrate found textiles, natural materials, and 3D-printed forms to build a “feminine archive” that bridges personal narrative with collective histories. Robinson’s work has been exhibited in both the U.S. and abroad, including Lacoste, France, where she developed projects centered on the poetics of place and women’s labor.
In addition to her studio practice, Robinson is an experienced art educator dedicated to nurturing creativity, empathy, and critical inquiry through the visual arts. She lives and works in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
